Bollywood Filmmaker Drags Google & YouTube to Court with an FIR

Bollywood filmmaker Suneel Darshan has filed an FIR against Google and Sundar Pichai, no less, including Youtube, in Mumbai, in an alleged copyright infringement case. Suneel Darshan had approached the court over a copyright issue for one of his films that has an IMDB rating of 2.8 out of 10. The court then ordered an FIR against Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and five others from the company. MIDC police in Andheri East have registered an FIR and have started jaanch partaal of the kab kyu kaha of this filmy matter.

Suneel Darshan has made several movies in Bollywood with top actors. But the last movie he made in 2017, was titled ‘Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha’ starring Upen Patel and a few other unknown actors. And this is the fillum that has been uploaded on YouTube by many punters who upload doosro ka maal like it is their baap ka maal on Youtube where lakhs of videos are uploaded daily.

But Suneel Darshan is saying that he has not given the film rights to anyone. Talking to the media he said, “I have been fighting the battle against YouTube for many years. I am yet to receive any response from them. I make movies and they are my property. Someone else is uploading them with billions of views, YouTube and others are earning from it. I made so many complaints but no response at all. I finally had to approach the court on the matter, after which the court ordered Mumbai police to file an FIR and investigate.”

His vakeel said one mister Chitale said that the intellectual property rights of the film ‘Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha’ is owned by Suneel Darshan. Calling this film “a precious and valuable commodity” the vakil argued that its Mr. Suneel’s decision on where and how he wants to give the darshan of his film.

And rightly so, as he said, how it should be exploited commercially can only be decided by Darshanji. “No one has the right or the license to upload the content belonging to Mr Darshan, except Mr Darshan himself,” said the vakeel as a point to be noted mi-lord.

And he doesn’t stop at this. He goes on firing khari khoti on Youtube slash Google saying, “By their actions, YouTube slash Google and its officials have not only considerably eroded the marketability and the value of the intellectual property rights of the audio-visuals of Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha, but YouTube slash Google has unjustly enriched itself by earning huge revenue through ads and other sources. Mr Darshan had complained to YouTube slash Google and its officials several times but they ignored his complaints and continued to earn huge revenue for itself at Mr Darshan’s cost by illegally exploiting his intellectual property rights. Mr Darshan was left with no alternative but to approach the police, and now the court. The court was pleased to allow Mr Darshan’s request and has directed the police to register an FIR against YouTube slash Google and their officials.”

So, Suneel Darshan who has made films like Ajay Slash Jaanwar and many more, says I don’t want to challenge technology, but the misuse of technology.

But it’s not like the Lootere of his valuable content have no other options. Suneel Darshan doesn’t mind making Dosti and be friends forever with YouTube slash Google by opting for a settlement. As per the reports, he could let go of his inteqam if some mandwali is worked out with Youtube slash Google.

Otherwise the producer, who made a film called Bond of Love says, “I’m only fighting for my rights. How can someone use my content, exclusively copyrighted to me, not sold to anyone, not shared with anyone, on the platform. And then they have their own reasons, and they don’t even remove it. I have lost the film’s entire value and they have done it before also, that’s a different case.”

Well, we hope Suneel Darshan’s Inteqam soon turns into a ‘Bond of Love’ , but if not then he clearly has another ‘Andaaz’ of dealing with the problem through court kacheri.

And so just yesterday, the MIDC police filed an FIR under the copyright act of 1957 under Sections 51, 63 and 69 against Youtube slash Google including Sundar Pichai, whose team must be in the Talaash of the users who uploaded this cinematic genious called Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha.
