Will Bachchchan Paandey Bachcao Bollywood?

It’s that time of the year once again when an Akshay Kumar’s film is up for release and while most of his recent films have seen him playing the quintessential “Bhartiya” with chest thumping patriotism, this time around Khiladi Kumar is playing a negative character, interestingly, called Bachchchan Pandey

Hi this is Ronak Kotecha and this is the review of the trailer of Sajid Nadiadwala’s much awaited multi-starrer Bachchchan Pandey starring Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Pankaj Tripathi and many more interesting character artists, playing quirky characters.

The story seems simple – there is a bad man called Bachchchan Pandey with a motely group of goofy sidekicks but together they are as dangerous as they come. They kill for pleasure and crack silly jokes. Somewhere far, a young writer with her middle-aged friend is struggling to make it big in Bollywood. That’s Kriti Sanon and Arshad Warsi. But how far will these two strugglers go in risking their own lives, to follow their passion? You can find that out on 18th March when this film releases only in the theatres across the world

But for now, the trailer is out and it opens with the introduction of the dreaded Bachchcan Pandey – jiski aankhein aur dil dono patthar ke hain…Akshay Kumar is reprising the character he played in ‘Tashan’ jisme unka naam yehi tha – yes it’s not a film based on the life of Amitabh Bachchan and it definitely has nothing to do with Chunkey or Ananya Pandey.

Akshay’s been given similar kind of looks as he had in Tashan but only more lethal this time, as Bachchchan Pandey believes ki bhaukal banaye rakhne ke liye…bhay banay ke rakhna…..bohot jaroori hai….and to do that he slices and dices people around him like gajar mooli, with blood flowing generously throughout the trailer.

But it’s not like it’s all blood and gore. Iss film ke director hain Farhad Samji, who is best known for his punchy one-liners and directorials like Housefull…So even with all the khoon kharaba, there is a lot of hassi mazaak and naach gaana in this film

The trailer seems to follow the similar chronology of events, as the film, becuse we get a good gist of the story from it but hopefully there will be a lot more comedy in this Action crime thriller, which is the genre that works really well in big budget films like these, mounted on a huge canvas.

And a lot of comedy here, will, of course come from Farhad Samji’s quirky one-liners delivered by some really funny actors like Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi who plays Bhaves Bhoplo – the jholachaap guruji, who is unapologeticly offensive – he calls a one dark gunda – granite ka patthar. Then there is Sanjay Mishra as Buffering Chacha because he stammers and Saharsh Kumar Shukla, who plays Kaandi, because he does ajeebo-gareeb kaands…

All of this might be insensitive in real life but funny in reel life and could ensure the film never becomes too overbearing and heavy and remains light and comical, despite all the brutal action…These kind of quirks worked really well in Pushpa jiska naam sunke sab usko flower samje the but he turned out to be fire. His character was a dreaded gangster but he had a distinct goofy and funny side to him, which is what made him relatable and people loved it.

As per wikipedia, Bachchhan Paandey was also supposed to be a remake of Veeram, but the makers, altered the script and came up with an original idea and now reports are that Bachchhan Paandey is a remake of a Tamil film called Jigar-thanda, which itself is inspired from a Korean drama. So no wonder, it has the cool over-the-top action quotient and the quirks

Bachchchan Pandey’s girlfriend is played by Jacqueline Fernandes, who doesn’s seem to be having much luck in the boyfriend department, as he murders her in cold-blood…Arre this is not a spoiler baba…They have shown it in the trailer itself

Bachhchan Pandey ke producer hain Sajid Nadiadwala, who is known for making badi badi filmein and this one by all means is the next big-budget Bollywood outing that should revive the fate of cinema halls, post the pandemic. It was earlier slated to release on 25th December 2020, but then the release date was changed to 22nd January 2021 but then again the second wave happened and now it’s finally coming on 18th March

‘Bachchhan Paandey’ is Akshay’s fourth collaboration with Farhad Samji and 10th collaboration with Sajid Nadiadwala.
