Is Anil Kapoor all set to end his 38-year-old marriage with Sunita and marry Kangana Ranaut?
That’s a great headline for gossip mongers and clickbaiters, but this is absolutely rubbish. It’s a weird story about Anil Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut’s alleged affair that has now reached the level of shaadi, but there’s no truth to it.
Watch till the end because this story is connected with something far more problematic.
I am sure in the last 24 hours, you may have come across such headlines on your Google feeds or on youtube homepage especially if you dig Bollywood news. Even, for me a headline of some random website popped up this afternoon that read, “Anil Kapoor to end his 38 yeat old marriage for Kangana Ranuat.” When I clicked on it, it threw up the page not found error – since it was a shady website looking for quick clicks, I didn’t bother much but by evening more reports started flashing around, this time on slightly less shady sites.
Upon little digging, it was clear that this was someone’s mischief to create a mini-riot on social media, but it was no more than a storm in a tea cup, as the whole story seemed to have stemmed out of a very old video that’s being taken out of context. A video that is 11 years old, to be precise. This was season 3 of Koffee with Karan that was aired on 12th December 2010, where Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kangana Ranaut were the guests to promote their film ‘No Problem’ and as everyone else they played the dreaded rapid-fire round.
During that, Karan asked Anil Kapoor about one woman, he would leave his wife for. To this Anil Kapoor, in jest, pointed towards Kangana and took her name. To this, Karan Johar had jokingly advised Kangana, “I think you should be worried.” It’s another story that some years later what Kangana did, worried Karan Johar a lot.
But that is all there is to this “news” of Anil Kapoor leaving his wife Sunita, who he married after a courtship that lasted 11 years …Yes, they dated for over a decade and Anil Kapoor claimed during an interview that he fell in love with Sunita’s voice, the very first time they spoke.
While Sunita Kapoor was a banker’s daughter with an established modelling career, Anil Kapoor was just trying to set foot in Bollywood, at the time. Today, Sunita Kapoor is a successful costume designer, as well.
But this wasn’t the real problematic question that Karan posed in that episode to promote ‘No Problem.’ He blatantly asked Kangana Ranaut, if she had undergone plastic surgery. He asked her if she has “worked” on herself to which Kangana, who looked visibly uncomfortable asked, “like what…can you be more precise?” To this, surprisingly, it was Anil Kapoor, who jumped in and spelt it out for her, by saying, “like Botox.” And it just didn’t end at this, Karan continued to invade into Kangana’s personal space, by talking about her affair with Aditya Pancholi and Shekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan, whose name he just couldn’t pronounce. Of course, Kangana wasn’t exactly the fiery badass that she is today and you can see her trying to wriggle out of the unsavoury conversation, by smiling and laughing it off.

But rest assured, there is no truth to any rumours about Anil Kapoor and Kangana’s illicit affair. We’re glad it isn’t true and another family is not being destroyed and we would be glad if yet another story that making the rounds about trouble between a famous Bollywood power couple, riding high on the success of their recent film, isn’t true either. There are hush hush stories about them not getting along at the international premiere of their film and how they stayed in different suites and moved around in separate cars, but we can only hope that it’s just a regular tiff between a couple and they’re just as thick and close, as they appear, in public.
